I am looking for families of my great grandparents in Moycullen. Thomas Connell and Catherine Flaherty married in Moycullen
on February 21, 1867 . Thomas Connell was from Gortachalla townland. Catherine Flaherty was born about 1840. Their children,
all born in Gortachalla, were Honor, Patrick, Margaret, Mary and Michael. The godparents sponsoring the baptisms of their
children included Thomas Flaherty, Patrick Connell, Mary Connell, Margaret Flaherty and John Connell. The youngest son, Michael
Connell, was my dear grandfather. After he emigrated to the US , he married Margaret Caulfield from Portdarragh (daughter of John
Caulfield of Portdarragh and Catherine Clancy of Allenspark, Leagaun). The eldest son, Patrick, became the man of the house in
Gortachalla and lived with his wife Sarah, their children Thomas, Catherine, Sarah, Michael and Martin, and with his widowed
mother Catherine and her sister Margaret in 1901 and 1910 censuses. The father of Thomas could have been John Connell or
Bernard Connell, who were householders in the Griffith ’s Valuation of Gortachalla in 1850s. Another John Connell and another
Bernard Connell were householders in Currawattia, and a James Connell in Cartoor, all in the Griffith ’s Valuation. I don’t know
Catherine Flaherty’s townland in Moycullen. I am particularly interested in learning about the parents or siblings of Thomas Connell
and Catherine Flaherty.
